The Higher Education Authority has deregistered three Universities from operating as Higher Education institutions in the country.
Speaking at a Media Briefing, Authority Corporate Communications Officer Bornface Musoba cited Citizen University, Pamodzi, and University of East and Southern Africa as the higher learning institutions whose certificate of registration has been canceled.
Mr. Musoba said the Universities have been deregistered for abrogating the Higher Education Authority Act.
“The Higher Education Authority has in accordance with the provisions of the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013 part IV, section 23 (3), forthwith deregistered Citizen University, Pamodzi University, and University of East and Southern Africa,” Mr. Musoba said.
He added that the Authority is mandated to deregister a private higher learning institution that contravenes any term or condition of the certificate of registration or any provision of the higher Education Act.
Mr. Musoba said the Universities were deregistered between 20th and 26th December, 2019 and that they have been gazette in Gazette Notice of 2020 which was published on 10th January, 2020.
He stated that the authority will continue to conduct institutional audits to ascertain the continued compliance of the registered Higher Education Institutions to set standards so as not to compromise on the quality of higher education in the country.
The Higher Education Authority is a statutory body established by the higher Education ACT No.4 of 2013 with a mandate to regulate and monitor standards in higher institutions in order to ensure quality services.
