Higher Education Authority rejects 6 PhDs

• Due to irregularities surrounding the awarding of the 6 PhDs, HEA does not recognize them.
• The Higher Education Institution contravened provisions of the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013.
• HEA has informed Zambia Qualifications Authority not to recognize the PhDs as qualifications.

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) says it does not recognize the Six Postgraduate Degrees (PhDs) conferred by Twin Palm Leadership University, in Chikankata district, Southern Province.
Authority Corporate Communications Officer Birbal Musoba disclosed to Money FM News that the PhDs are in the field of Transformational Leadership and were conferred at a graduation ceremony held on 25th April, 2020.
Mr. Musoba stated that the non-recognition of the said PhDs follows an investigation conducted by the Authority into the circumstances under which the degrees were awarded.
He added that due to irregularities surrounding the awarding of the degrees, the Authority does not recognize them as qualifications in Zambia because the University contravened provisions of the Higher Education Act.
“Notice is hereby given to the general public that the Higher Education Authority (HEA) does not recognize the six (6) Postgraduate Degrees (PhDs) in the field of Transformational Leadership that were conferred by Twin Palm Leadership University, Reg. No. HEA/044, at a graduation ceremony held on 25th April, 2020.”

“Due to the irregularities surrounding the awarding of the 6 PhDs, HEA does not recognize them as the Higher Education Institution (HEI) contravened the provisions of the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013 and Statutory Instrument No. 25 of 2016,” Mr. Musoba said.
Mr. Musoba further said the Authority has since informed the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) not to recognize the PhDs as qualifications.
“HEA will continue to take such actions as part of its continued efforts in safeguarding the quality of higher education in Zambia,” he added.
