• Zambians have embraced the campaign on the need to buy local products.
• The moment they want to buy something, let them first think of buying that which is made in Zambia.
• Buying locally manufactured goods is the only way to grow the economy.
The BuyZed Campaign says the increase in the number of people buying local products will greatly contribute to economic growth.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Organization Founder Evans Ngoma said the recent revelation by President Edgar Lungu that the number of Zambians consuming locally made products has increased makes the organization extremely elated.
Mr. Ngoma stated that this is an indication that Zambians have embraced the campaign on the need to buy local products as this is what the organization has been advocating for.
“This makes us extremely happy as BuyZed because this has been our appeal to locals that each time they walk into these chain stores or groceries across our compounds, the moment they want to buy something, let them first think of buying that which is made in Zambia.”
“It excites us so much that what we have been advocating for has not been going into deaf ears, people have been listening and so people have been following us in our quest to call for buying of locally produced goods and services,” Mr. Ngoma noted.
He added that buying locally manufactures goods is the only way the country’s economy can grow, and may in turn help reduce the external borrowing in order for government to concentrate on the many ambitious developmental projects that are currently being implemented.
“It is the only way we can grow our economy as a country, it is the only way we can reduce the external borrowing on the part of government, in order to spearhead the many ambitious projects that we have started,” he said.
In his recent state of the nation address on the progress made in the application of national values and principles, President Lungu noted an increase in the number of people consuming local products.
He said 33 companies have so far been certified to use the official ‘proudly Zambian’ Logo, covering over 500 product lines, an indication that the campaign dubbed ‘proudly Zambian’ has been enshrined in the minds of the locals.
