Increasing population triggers unsustainable farming practices – CESCo

The Citizens Environmental and Social Concern has observed that that the ever-increasing Zambian population comes with higher demands for food which trigger unsustainable farming practices.
Executive Director Conwell Hakapya says it also brings about competition in the usage of Land and indiscriminate cutting of trees for settlements, agriculture and charcoal production.
Mr. Hakapya says this in turn causes soil erosion and degradation and has urged Government and stakeholders to invest more in soil management through research and promotion of agricultural practices that do not compromise the productivity of the soil
He was speaking in Commemoration of this year’s World Soil Day being commemorated under the theme “Stop Soil Erosion, Save our Future”
