The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has disclosed that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has started issuing tripartite contracts for early maize.
In its latest brief, ZNFU said participating farmers will be contacted by the Union when copies of the contract are availed for signing and the millers will sign, followed by the FRA, and later deliveries will start.
“Please note that so far, the FRA has allocated contracts for 27, 754 metric tonnes of early maize for the month of April. Further allocations are expected based on the demand by millers,” the Union said.
Meanwhile, ZNFU said it has suspended all its Union meetings with members in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In a communiqué to the ZNFU Council members, Union Executive Director Ellah Chembe said District Farmers’ Associations should also take hid and consider suspending Executive Committee and other meetings.
“The situation will be reviewed periodically in line with country developments as announced by the Ministry of Health and shall communicate on all other Union meetings such as the Council Meeting or AGMs at an appropriate time,” Mrs Chembe stated.
