The Annual Inflation Rate for January 2019 has remained at 7.9 Percent, showing no movement from December 2018.
This has been attributed to an increase in inflation for Food and Non Alcoholic beverages and Transport and education Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Central Statistical Office (CSO) Acting Director for Census and Statistics Daniel Daka said this during the Presentation of the Monthly Bulletin in Lusaka today.
Meanwhile Zambia’s trade deficit for December 2018 has decreased by 83.5 percent from K1.7 billion recorded in November, 2018 to K285.6 million.
Mr Daka has attributed this to the reduced rate at which the country is importing.
He explains that the country’s imports decreased by 3.1 percent to K9. 458.5 billion in December from K9, 763.4 billion in November 2018.
The bulletin further indicates that Zambia’s Exports have increased at a high rate of 14.2 percent to K9.1 billion in December 2019 from K8 billion in November 2018.
The Rate of unemployment for the third quarter of 2018 has decreased by 1.9 percent to 11.1 percent from 13 percent recorded in the second quarter.
According to the Presentation by Mr. Daka, the female unemployment rate has reduced from 15.2 percent in the third quarter of 2017 to 12 percent in the 2018 third quarter.
He says the Male unemployment rate has reduced from 11.7 percent in the third quarter of 2017 to 10,6 percent in the third quarter of 2018.
