Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) says more has to be done with promotion of active participation among Youth in the country’s decision making processes.
Speaking during a media orientation workshop in Lusaka, JCTR Programs Manager Innocent Ndashe explained that Zambia’s population is largely made of youth stating that whatever steps the country take will be impacting more on the youth population.
Mr. Ndashe further pointed out on need to add a larger part of people involved in active participation of the country’s decision making to be women that make up to over 50 percent of the country’s population.
He narrated that in the just ended election, of the elected members of parliament, only 13% of Women have been elected out of the 155 parliamentary candidates.
“Already that disadvantages women an active role in decision making and the situation is also not different for the youth even when we talk about for example the few constituencies in Lusaka you will find that most of the of the people that have been elected as members of parliament are Men, and Youth are very few,” said Mr. Ndashe.
Mr. Ndashe explained that there might be development that is not be well tilted.
“It is paramount that we begin talking about encouraging participation of everyone in decision making,” said JCTR Programs Manager.
