‘Jerabos’ windup operation at Black Mountain

The small scale miners operating at the infamous Black Mountain in Kitwe are concluding their operations.
Chapamo Mineral Processing Ltd has confirmed the development to Money FM News that the company is in its final stages concluding operations on the slug dump popularly known as the Black Mountain as the 10 percent awarded to them by government has been exhausted.
Chapamo Mineral Processing Ltd Director Kelvin Tembo says the works on the black mountain are expected to be completed by Thursday this week adding that the handover of slug will be done in the soonest possible time.
Mr. Tembo advised the members of Chapamo to invest the money in meaningful projects as chances of having another project like the black mountain might not come soon.
He said the black mountain venture is a capital raising project hence the need to invest in viable projects that will help members and the youth live sustainable lives as minerals that are currently been excavated at the dump slug are a diminishing resource.
Mr Tembo disclosed that Chapamo Mineral Processing Ltd is in negotiations with government over the dump 67 slug behind KCM as a new business venture for the young people in the district.
He added that Chapamo has plans to take part in the C400 road project embarked by government to work on drainages as a way of keeping the business a float adding that this move will also benefit the youths and vulnerable groups in society such as widows and the disabled.
He further added that about 70 houses that were damaged by the blasting last year have been done so far with the remaining to be completed once the rain season is over.
And Mr Tembo has apologized to the residents of Kitwe over the inconvenience and damage that the trucks operating at the black mountain have caused.
Kitwe residents have in past taken to task the local authority and the district administration over the behaviour of Chapamo Mineral Processing Ltd and their drivers for failing to adhere to road traffic rules.
