Mr. Nzala explained that on dates unknown but between 1st September 2021 and 30th September 2022 in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together, in purported compliance with the VAT Act Chapter 331 of the laws of Zambia, the taxpayer provided tax invoice numbers to ZRA, purporting to show that Alaska Solutions Limited had been supplied with taxable supplies by various Copperbelt based companies which was false in material particular.
“In the same period and jurisdiction, the accused company and Director fraudulently recovered value added tax by providing false returns that taxable supplies were made to Alaska Solutions Limited by various Copperbelt based companies when in fact not.”
“When the matters came up for plea on yesterday 31st October 2022, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the thirty-six (36) counts of false returns and statements and evasion of tax leveled against them,” Mr. Nzala said.
He stated that due to the alleged fraudulent recovery of VAT by the said company and Director, government lost over K9 million in taxes.
“The case was adjourned to 12th December 2022 for commencement of trial,” he stated.
