Kwacha continues to suffer shocks

Kwacha continues to suffer shocks selling at eleven kwacha eighty three ngwee and buying at eleven kwacha seventy eight ngwee.

Yesterday, the local unit opened trading at eleven kwacha sixty three ngwee and selling at eleven kwacha eighty five ngwee.

Friday’s trading saw the US Dollar against Zambian kwacha opening at eleven kwacha fifty seven ngwee and was selling at eleven kwacha sixty two ngwee compared to its closing levels of eleven kwacha fifty five ngwee and selling at eleven kwacha sixty ngwee on Thursday.

And according to Cavmont Bank Market Report, the currency pair was less volatile during the session, though it made a movement as it was later seen trading at eleven kwacha sixty five ngwee and selling at eleven kwacha seventy two ngwee.

The Kwacha’s performance contrasted that of other emerging market currencies like the South African Rand which appreciated to an intra-day high of one dollar against 14 Rand.
