LCC pulls down 472 billboards in 2019 Q1

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has revealed that it has removed 472 billboards from roads and roundabouts around the city since the beginning of 2019.
LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says those that were pulled down were either illegally or wrongly placed, or had unidentified advertisers.
Mr. Sichimba says this is in an exercise that the council has embarked on to regulate the placement of billboards in the country and restore sanity in the manner billboards are erected and displayed.
The LCC Public relations Manager has also noted that there is a growing trend of companies advertising on walls and banners without heeding to the lawful processes.
He says the Council is mandated by law to regulate all forms of outdoor advertising, regardless of the Location.
Mr. Sichimba has therefore advised people intending to advertise their goods and services outdoors to seek planning permission from the local authority before putting up any advertisement.
