Local contractors have capacity to do major contracts

The National Association for Medium and Small-Scale Contractors has appealed to government to consider the local contractors when giving contracts to foreign contractors.
Association President Mutale Mpepo has told Money FM News in an interview following the Zambia Railways Limited awarding China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Limited a US$2.3 billion contract for the construction of Chipata-Serenje via Petauke line.
Mr. Mpepo says it is sad to see that Zambia has no faith in the local contractors.
He said this has a cost to in the end adding that Zambians will always complain of not having jobs and not having enough money in the country.
He said government should have faith in local contractors as they have capacity to do major contracts.
Mr. Mpepo added that awarding contracts to local contractors means that the money will remain in the country.
