Local Engineers advised to set up companies – EIZ

• Set up own companies and win contracts
• Most local engineers are languishing in the city because they lack entrepreneurial skills to help them become their own bosses.
• Government will not have to give contracts to foreign Engineers for projects that can be done by the locals

Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) has advised local Engineers to start setting up their own companies and win contracts instead of waiting to be employed by government and the private sector.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, EIZ Chief Executive Officer Engineer Linus Chanda explained that most local engineers are languishing in the city because they lack entrepreneurial skills to help them become their own bosses, hence the need for Government to create incentive to change the education system to focus on entrepreneurship.
“Government must relook the education system in country and make sure that engineers learn entrepreneurial skills to help them start help them once they complete their studies, “he said
Engineer Chanda noted that once the Engineers start thinking in those lines, government will not have to give contracts to foreign Engineers for projects that can be done by the locals.
He said that the job market for local engineers currently is low in Zambia due to the country not having enough companies to employ engineers.
Engineer Chanda stated that Zambian Engineers are very much capable to do a commendable job compared to foreigners once give a chance to do so.
“Zambians are the ones mostly found working in construction sites while foreign engineers just supervise and invest their money,” he explained
