Luanshya Town secure for business – Mayor

• The construction of the police post will be done at a total cost of K494, 000.
• The project has been initiated and financed by Luanshya Municipal Council using Ward Development Fund.
• Providing security for residents and securing private property is an integral part of sustainable social-economic development.

Luanshya Mayor says the local authority is determined to use locally generated resources to build a secure and viable local economy open to both local and foreign investments.
Speaking during the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the laying of the foundation for the New Town Police Post, Nathan Chanda said providing security for residents and securing private property is an integral part of sustainable social-economic development.
Mr. Chanda disclosed that the Luanshya Municipal Council is prudently using the locally generated Ward Development Fund, which was used to finance the construction of the New Town Police Post at a cost of K494, 000.
“The construction of the police post which will be done at a total cost of K494, 000 has been initiated and financed by the Luanshya Municipal Council using the Ward Development Fund. The Construction of the Police post is a clear manifestation of the hard work and efforts being made by the local authority and indeed, your area Councilor working together with all the community leaders here.
“Protection of Public and private property is an integral part of the planning and implementation of investment initiatives and sustainable socio-economic development. By providing a secure environment for both residents and the business community in New Town and Luanshya in general, we will have an environment which is enabling for more people to live in our area and for more business men and women to invest in our town,” Mr. Chanda said.
He further revealed that the local authority has embarked on various developmental projects which include community infrastructure development in line with President Edgar Lungu’s vision, which aims to transforming Zambia into a middle income country by the year 2030.
“As a local authority we are determined to see to it that the vision of President Edgar Lungu of transforming Zambia into a prosperous middle income country by the year 2030 using the 7th National Development Plan and the vision 2030 through the implementation of various sustainable development programs such as the construction of the Police post that we are witnessing today.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Chanda warned Luanshya residents to desist from destroying police stations, stressing the need for them to honor, embrace, and support police officers working in their localities.
And Zambia Police Service District Commanding Officer Agnes Chisenga commended Luanshya Municipal Council for coming to the aid of New Town residents and supplementing government’s efforts by embarking on the construction of a Police Post which will make it easy for the police to conduct patrols.
Ms Chisenga said having a Police Post is a dream come true for the residents of New Town, adding that the police command in Luanshya is equally grateful to the council for the gesture.
Furthermore, Luanshya Deputy Mayor Golden Mulenga commended Mr. Chanda and the current Council management for playing a crucial role in transforming New Town residential area by overcoming all the historical challenges which made the area’s previous Councilors to construct a police post.
