Local Airline, Mahogany Air has launched its Lusaka – Lubumbashi in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) direct international flight.
Mahogany Air Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jim Belemu says this is the first international route that has been introduced by the airline.
Speaking after landing in Lubumbashi, Dr. Belemu says the company has purchased two more new aircrafts and that they want to have ten before the end of next year.
He said the airline wants to invest about K15 million in its business in addition to the K5 million that was invested earlier.
“The introduction of our first international route of course came with a lot of challenges as well as investment. We have always wanted to fly into Lubumbashi and we have done it,” he said.
He said the airline met all the conditions that were suggested by DRC authorities.
Speaking at the same event, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo, who was the guest of honor, said the Zambian government attaches great importance to the growth of the tourism sector because of its impact on economy.
And Ambassador Extraordinary to Zambia, DRC and Malawi, Chantal Maloba says this is good for the economy of both countries.
