Make easy access to affordable finance for Local Contractors – ZACCO

•       create an enabling Environment for Local Contractors to have access to affordable Finance through the creation of a contraction Bank

•       This will enable the local contractors have cheap loans to procure their equipment

•       Zambian Contractors have human technical skills to take up major projects

Zambia Association of Citizen Contractors (ZACCO) has called on Government to create an enabling environment for local contractors to have access to affordable Finance through the creation of a contraction Bank.

Association General Secretary Danny Simumba told Money FM News in an interview that this will enable the local contractors to have cheaper loans to procure their equipment for them to undertake major projects.

Mr. Simumba noted that Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development Charles Milupi’s observation that Local contractors do not have capacity to take up major road projects is simply because contractors lack adequate financing to purchase the needed equipment.

He explained that Zambian Contractors have human technical skills to take up major projects but lack financial support.

“Zambian contactors have the capacity because the country has trained professionals to take up major projects but only need financial support from both Government and the private sector,” he said

He has since appealed to Government to ensure that Local contractors are motivated by paying them on time to avoid accumulation of debt owed to them by Governmnet. On Sunday, Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development Charles Milupi told Money FM News in an interview that local contractors do not have capacity to undertake major road projects in the country because they have not been empowered to grow and have skills transfer when working with international contractors.
