Make Shooting Report Public – Action Aid

Action Aid Zambia says it is important for the report on the shooting incident that took place on 23rd December to be made public because it is a matter of public interest.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Action Aid Country Director Nalucha Ziba says once the document is made public, citizens will be informed of what transpired on that fateful day.
“The Incident involved civilians and is a matter of interest and it is only right that at some point the report should be made public and citizens will be informed of what transpired on that fateful day,” she said.
Ms. Ziba has since described the shooting as unfortunate, adding that from the organization’s observation, the incident may have been pre-meditated, even before Hakainde Hichilema appeared before the police.
She added that the country has continued to see the rough treatment of the police officers through the continued increase of the budgetary allocation to law and order every year at a very high percentage, compared to social sectors of the economy.
“We have seen highly the utilization of the police, and this is through the continued increase of the budgetary allocation to law and order every year at a very high percentage, at the expense of social sectors,” Ms Ziba said.
Ms Ziba states that the increments in the budgetary allocation are translating in the citizens which she notes that is not justifiable in the national constitution.
Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu was expected to receive a report on the shooting incident that happened on 23rd December 2020, at the Police Headquarters.
