Malaria cases remain high – MoH

• Zambia recorded over 6.3 million cases of Malaria in 2021 alone with 1,480 deaths recorded.
• Malaria incidence reductions recorded in from 2020 to 2021 are largely due to investment made in preventive interventions.
• ‘Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives’

Minister of Health says despite huge investments made towards malaria elimination the number of cases still remains high for a country that aspires to eliminate the deadly disease.

Speaking to launch the World Malaria Day, Sylvia Masebo noted according to the Health Management Information System, Zambia recorded over 6.3 million cases of Malaria in 2021 alone with 1,480 deaths recorded.

Ms. Masebo further called for concerted efforts to ensure drastic reduction of malaria burden in Zambia stating that “these reported malaria cases and deaths are extremely high.”

She however said Malaria incidence reductions recorded in from 2020 to 2021 are largely due to investment made in preventive interventions.

“However we have recorded Malaria incidence reduction from 428 per 1000 population in 2020 to 340/1000 in 2021,”she said.

This Year’s World Malaria Day is being commemorated under the theme ‘Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives.’
