Millers assure Farmers of good maize price

• Milers will buy maize at a competitive price during this year’s crop marketing season.
• The millers will be able to enter the market early and ensure that a reasonable price is offered.
• They will also take advantage of the good maize price that will be offered by Food Reserve Agency.

Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) has assured farmers that its members will be buying maize at a competitive price during this year’s crop marketing season.
Association President Andrew Chintala told Money FM News in an interview that the millers will be able to enter the market early and ensure that a reasonable price is offered to farmers according to the law of supply and demand.
Mr. Chintala said no miller should exploit any farmer when it comes to the price of maize because farmers rely on the commodity to sustain their livelihood.
He stated that Millers will also take advantage of the good maize price that will be offered by Food Reserve Agency (FRA) so that mealie meal prices are stabilized.
“It will only be realistic and fair for farmers to sell the maize at a reasonable price but not at an exaggerated price which will affect mealie meal prices,” Mr. Chintala said.
Mr. Chintala further urged millers to secure enough grain to avoid a situation where government is forced to step in to ensure uninterrupted production of mealie-meal.
“I’m urging our members to take a leading role and secure enough grain in this year’s marketing season to ensure there is no interruption in production up to the next crop harvest,” he added.
