Ministry of Local Government distances itself from directive to demolish Alick Nkhata flyover bridge.

The Ministry of Local Government has distanced itself from the directive given by Permanent Secretary Ed Chomba to demolish the newly constructed Alick Nkhata flyover bridge in Lusaka.
Minister in charge Dr. Charles Banda says the directive was made in his personal capacity and that engineers have established that there is nothing wrong with the bridge.
Dr. Banda has added that the project was not done by AFCON and is not part of the Lusaka Decongestion Project but is a private arrangement.
The Minister has apologized to the head of state and the construction industry for the directive made by his permanent secretary saying he regrets it and was a personal opinion.
Local Government Permanent Secretary Bishop Ed Chomba is on record as having ordered the demolition of the newly constructed Alick Nkhata flyover bridge in saying it is a death trap and lacks the basic minimum standards of a bridge.
