Commercial farmers in Mkushi Farming Block have donated K100, 000 towards preparations for the Investment Forum and Expo slated for next month.
Mkushi Farmers Association chairperson Dickon Elson who presented the cheque to provincial Minister Sydney Mushanga said farmers in Mkushi believed that the Expo would define the Zambian future in terms of investment.
“Agriculture is the future that we look at and we know that agriculture will support the nation, it will feed the nation and feed the region and then feed the world so this gesture suggest a word of support from Mkushi farmers,” he said.
Mr. Elson said the farmers in the rural district were looking forward to receiving potential investors during and after the Expo that would be able to invest in the area and add value to the produce.
He commended the Government especially the provincial administration for continued support towards the welfare of the farmers in the area.
And, Mr. Mushanga said the donation would go a long way in helping the organisers of the Expo to meet the needs of the region’s biggest exhibition.
The Provincial Minister noted that the commercial farmers in Mkushi were pioneers in agriculture as they have continued to lead in the production of many crops.
“On behalf provincial administration, we want to commend you, we want to salute you; you have been feeding us as people of Central Province, you have also fed this nation because of the wheat for bread comes from Mkushi Farm Block,” he said.
He said the Government was also glad that the farming block had contributed to the economic development of the country through job creation and assured of government support.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe hailed civil servants for their unwavering efforts and support towards the preparations of the Expo and expressed hope that the exhibition would change the economic outlook of the province.
