Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has expressed disappointment with Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) for alleged allowing theft of medicine in public Clinics and Hospitals.
Organization Media and Advocacy Director Francis Kangwa said the public is aware, public Clinics and Hospitals have previously been experiencing shortages of essential medicines all because of pilfering of Medicines by unpatriotic health workers.
Mr Kangwe said the organization has been expecting ZAMRA to stop the public plunder of Medicines, because it has a statutory mandate to ensure safety and availability of Medicines in public health institutions.
“We demand that ZAMRA explains to the nation why it has completely failed to stop the stealing of Medicines in Clinics and Hospitals,” Mr Kangwe said.
He has since demanded for an explanation to the nation as to why it has completely failed to stop the stealing of Medicines in Public Clinics and Hospitals.
And Mr Kangwa noted that the Zambian people cannot continue to receive prescriptions at health institutions when ZAMRA can easily seal the stealing loopholes.
He said to this effect his organization will scale up the monitoring of availability of drugs in all public health institutions to stop the vice.
“MQHZ will now scale up the monitoring of availability of drugs in all public health institutions because lack of drugs cannot be entertained in Zambia,” he said.
Yesterday the Zambia Medicines and Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) observed with concern an increase in theft of medicines in public health facilities and an influx in the number of illegal export, import and transportation of medical products.
Authority Senior Public Relations Officer Christabel Illiampu disclosed that this was after the organization conducted destination inspection of pharmaceutical products in transit at Kafue Bridge check point in conjunction with Zambia Police officers.
