Mines and Minerals Resources Minister Richard Musukwa has directed Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) to immediately resolve issues involving workers and honor all outstanding payments due to contractors and suppliers.
Mr. Musukwa said it’s illogical for KCM to deny workers over time and other payments when they have provided them with a service.
Our Copperbelt staffer Alick Nyankata reports that the minister said KCM should find ways to amicably sort out issues and not disadvantage the workers especially on issues where they have provided a service.
“All those overtime payments, weekend and all outstanding payments which KCM has not honored the workers should immediately ensure that they honour,” he said.
“Workers for KCM are not shareholders and as such shareholders have a duty to ensure that the implement a robust cost saving measures and certainly not to disadvantage the workers”.
He added that government is failing to understand KCM as the mining company seems untruthful in its deals.
