Ndola City Council to conduct Ward Development Committees elections

• The committees are mandated to promote community engagement in ward development planning,
• WDCs are important because they provide a platform for increased community participation in governance.
• Youths, women and differently abled persons are encouraged to participate.

Ndola City Council has disclosed that it will this November conduct elections for the purpose of establishing Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in Ndola.

Council Public Relations Officer, Rebecca Mushota explained in a statement issued to Money FM news that the committees are mandated to promote community engagement in ward development planning, provide a forum for dialogue and coordination on ward development issues and monitor and evaluate ward development projects.
Mrs. Mushota noted WDCs are important because they provide a platform for increased community participation in governance, development planning and accountability.
She said prior to the election, Ndola residents should register as voters in the various wards in order to participate in the November 12, 2021 zonal elections.

“The city has 330 zones and one member of the community will be elected in each zone by the residents of that particular zone.” Said Ms. Mushota

According to Ms. Mushota, Elected zone members together with people drawn from other sectors such Government line Ministries and NGOs including Ward Councilors form the WDCs.

She added that Ndola City Council Town Clerk, Mr. Cosmas Chalusa has called on residents to register as voters on Thursday October 28 and Friday October 29, 2021 in the various zones.

Mr. Chalusa has also urged residents to participate in the WDC zonal elections and file in their nominations on Thursday November 4, 2021.

“Residents who have attained the age of 18 and are not affiliated to any political party qualify to contest in the elections.” He said.

Mr. Chalusa said youths, women and differently abled persons are encouraged to participate.
