Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia says commuters should expect a hike in bus fares following the upward adjustment of fuel prices for February 2023.
Association National Spokesperson Amis Daudi tells Money FM News in an interview that bus fares have not been hiked since October last year when petrol prices have increased by almost K4.50 ngwee per liter and Diesel by K3.09 ngwee per liter the last four months.
Mr. Daudi says stakeholders in the transport sector are currently making consultations and will soon make a proposal to Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to have the fares increased.
“We should expect a fare adjustment the last time we increased fares was in October 2022, so we are just going through the numbers and making consultations so that we put a position.”
“So commuters should expect an adjustment because the price of petrol has gone up by almost K4.50 from October and the Price of diesel has gone up by K3.09, so those are the increases. We are making consultations so that we can make a proposal to government through RTSA,” Mr. Daudi said.
On Tuesday, Energy Regulation Board (ERB) adjusted upwards pump prices of fuel by K2.73 per liter for petrol, K2.81 per liter for diesel and K2.32 ngwee per liter for Kerosene.
