The Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) says the mining tax standoff will determine the tempo, pulse and momentum of economic growth in the coming year, 2019.
EAZ National Secretary Mutisunge Zulu says this is because the mines, through the Zambia Chamber of Mines, have somewhat rejected the proposed new tax system which they have said will affect production.
Mr. Zulu says in this case, dialogue is key between the affected parties so as to increase production.
He says the mining sector is the major contributor to Zambia’s revenue collection.
The Economic Association of Zambia National Secretary said this when he featured on Money FM Business Radio’s Policy, Power and Money Programme that airs every Mondays and Thursdays at 9hrs.
Mr. Zulu has also noted the need to grow the country’s manufacturing sector in order to grow the revenue base.
He says in order to boost the foreign reserves, there is need to export more and that that can only be done if the manufacturing sector is grown.
He further notes that the agriculture sector may not perform accordingly due to the dry spells experienced during this farming season.
