Nigerian fined K60, 000 for engaging in trade without permit

• Victor Obi Echinna was apprehended during a compliance operation conducted at Kamwala Business Centre.
• He was sentenced to pay a fine of K 60,000 in all three counts or in default 9 months simple imprisonment.
• Between 14th and 22nd December, 2021 the Department apprehended 172 persons for various offences.

Department of Immigration in Lusaka has secured the conviction of a Nigerian national for illegal entry, unlawful stay, and engaging in trade without a permit.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka told Money FM News that Victor Obi Echinna 42, was apprehended on 16th December, 2021 during a compliance operation conducted at Kamwala Business Centre in Lusaka and was fined of K60,000 in all three counts or in default 9 months simple imprisonment.

Mr. Nshinka further revealed that its Kitwe Office secured the conviction of a 35 year old Zimbabwean on 14th December, 2021 for unlawful stay, engaging in employment without a permit and procuring a National Registration Card (NRC).

He said Tafara Chida was apprehended on 24th November, 2021 by Immigration Officers during a routine operation and was arrested, after discovering that he had continued working at Industrial Plumbers Limited after the expiry of his Employment Permit and that he had procured an NRC.

“For the offence of unlawful stay he was sentenced to pay a fine of K 10,000 or in default One year simple imprisonment while he was sentenced to pay a fine of K 30,000 or in default One year simple imprisonment for engaging in employment without a permit. He was further meted a One year custodial sentence for the offence of procuring a National Registration Card (NRC).”

“The company, Industrial Plumbers Limited will appear before Court on 5th January, 2022 on one count of employing a foreigner whose status does not permit contrary to section 43(1) (b) as read with section 56(1) of the Immigration and Deportation Act No.18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia. The Kitwe and Ndola convictions bring the number of convictions secured by the Department of Immigration between 14th and 22nd December, 2021 to 67,” he said.
And, Mr. Nshinka disclosed that between 14th and 22nd December, 2021 the Department of Immigration apprehended 172 people of different nationalities for various offences and refused 15 foreign nationals entry into the country for failing to meet entry requirements.
