No adjustment of bus, taxi fares – BTOAZ

• Price adjustments for petrol and diesel had not exceeded the agreed threshold to trigger fare adjustments.
• BTOAZ with RTSA agreed on some Terms of Reference and a process of fare adjustment.
• Prices of fuel have a direct impact on cost of doing business for public passenger transport operators.

There shall be no adjustment of bus and taxi fares for the month of November 2022, the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BTOAZ) has disclosed.

This development Comes after Energy Regulation Board (ERB) announced an upward review of fuel prices for the Month of November 2022 which came in effect at mid night of starting the Month.

BTOAZ National Spokesperson AMIS Daudi told Money FM News in statement that the decision was arrived at because the price adjustments of K1.57Ngwee for petrol and K1.22Ngwee for diesel had not exceeded the agreed threshold to trigger fare adjustments.

Mr. Daudi stated that in order to cultivate a stable business environment for all stakeholders, BTOAZ with Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), agreed on some Terms of Reference and a process of fare adjustment.

He explained this occurrence meant that the element of accumulation of increments of fuel prices going forward had kicked in with effect from 31st October 2022 and an adjustment of fares would be triggered when the cumulative fuel price increments hit the trigger point.

“Accordingly, the BTOAZ would like to advise the public that there shall be no adjustment of bus and taxi fares for the month of November 2022,” Mr Daudi announced.

He however indicated that the prices of fuel have a direct impact on the cost of doing business for the public passenger transport operators.

“Consequently this affects the prices of their services namely bus and taxi fares” he added.

Mr. Daudi had since reaffirmed BTOAZ’s commitment to the promotion and delivery of a safer, convenient and efficient public passenger transport service.
