No fuel shortage in Zambia – VEEP

• There is no shortage of fuel in the country.
• The engaged suppliers have continued importing fuel on behalf of government.
• The country has 10 days stock of diesel and 10 days stock of petrol.

Vice President Inonge Wina says there is no shortage of fuel in the country as Zambia has enough stocks of petroleum products.
Speaking in Parliament during the Vice President’s question time, Mrs. Wina stated that at the moment, the country as 10 days stock of diesel and 11 days stock of petrol as of 6th April, 2021.
She explained that fuel shortage was only experienced for few days following a protest by tanker drivers but that the situation is now back to normal.
“Fuel shortage was experienced for a day or two when fuel tanker drivers downed tools. As at now with regards to the reported fuel shortage in some parts of the country, I would like the house to be informed that the situation has since normalized taking into account that the country has enough stocks of fuel,” Mrs. Wina stated.
Mrs. Wina further disclosed that suppliers who have been engaged by government have continued importing fuel on behalf of the Ministry of Energy, while Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have also continued to import under the waiver that has been provided to them.
She was responding to Bweengwa Member of Parliament who wanted to know why the country is currently facing fuel challenges as Monze district has run out of the commodity.
