No woman should die from maternal mortality – Dr. Chilufya

Health Minister says government will strive to ensure that no woman dies while in the maternal ward.
Speaking when he presented Christmas hampers to newly born babies at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya said President Lungu’s vision for the country is to see to it that no mother dies while giving birth.
“I want to assure you that this is the vision that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has for the people of Zambia, which is to ensure that pregnant women in the Country deliver without any complications,” he said.
Dr. Chilufya also urged the mothers to always encourage their fellow women that are pregnant to ensure they start accessing antenatal services in the early stages to ensure that the mother and the baby are safe from any complications.
“Ensure that that your fellow pregnant women access antenatal services in the early stages of pregnancy so that the mother and the baby are safe from any complications during delivery,” Dr. Chilufya said.
The Minister further urged midwives at the health institution to continue providing quality health services to expectant mothers so cases of maternal mortality are completely done away with.
