North West Expo set for August

The North Western Provincial Administration says this year’s North West Expo will unlock the full potential of the province in many sectors of the economy.
The event dubbed, Expo North West Zambia 2019, will be held from 18th August to 24th August under the theme “Unveiling the hidden treasure”.
Speaking during the media breakfast meeting in Lusaka, North Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu says the province has investment potential in mining, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing and timber industry.
Mr. Mubukwanu said in the mining sector, the province has minerals such as copper, cobalt, gold and other minerals that can help transform the province.
“Our province is not only about mining; we have enormous potential in the agriculture sector. This also includes livestock and aquaculture development. As a province, we are the number one producer of pineapples, high quality organic honey from natural forests, we produce maize and the famous Solwezi beans,” he said.
“The connection of the entire province to the national hydro grid by the PF Government has even made our province more attractive for investment”.
He said 90 percent of the province will soon be connected to communication network, which links the province to the outside world in real time under the Universal Access Project.
In the tourism sector, the minister said the province is home to the source of the mighty Zambezi River after which Zambia derives its name.
“Many times, we have over-publicized the Mosi-O-Tunya Falls (Victoria Falls) at the expense of acknowledging the Zambezi source with its beautiful riparian forests which are part and parcel of our country’s natural heritage. We are home to various National Parks and Game Management Areas such as the Busanga Swamps, Kafue National Park, West Lunga National Park and the Zambezi Grasslands in the far west,” said Mr. Mubukwanu.
Speaking earlier, North Western Province Permanent Secretary Willies Manjimela says the expo will help the government in its quest to diversify the country’s economy.
Mr. Manjimela said he is confident the expo will unlock the full investment potential of the province.
