Privatization changed the country’s economic life – Veep

Vice President Inonge Wina says the privatization of national assess is a very serious matter because it has changed the economic life of the Country.
Speaking during the Vice President’s Question and Answer session in Parliament, Ms. Wina said privatization has been the topic of discussion since 1994, an indication that Zambians are aggrieved over the matter and need a lasting solution.
She explained that this is the right time to set up a Commission of Inquiry into the Privatization of national assets because there is no time frame as to when certain actions should be taken if a crime is committed.
“There is no time frame as to when certain actions should be taken when crime is committed,” the Vice President said.
The Vice President added that the privatization excise was undertaken by so many people and institutions, hence there is no need to single out one person.
She further said President Edger Lungu will decide when the commission will be formed because it is within his mandate.
“The President will decide on when the commission of inquires will be formed because it is within his mandate,” Ms. Wina said.
Yesterday, President Edgar Lungu said he will take time to reflect on the petition to set up a commission of inquiry into the privatization of national assets.

Speaking when he received a petition from a Consortium of Civil Society Organizations led by Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and students from various Universities, the Head of State said the will of the people is supreme and Section 2 of the Inquiry Act allows him to set up an inquiry.

“The will of the people is supreme and section 2 of the Inquiry Act allows him to set up an inquiry, I may not be obliged to consult anyone over the matter, but that the voice of the people matter,” President Lungu said.
