Rehabilitate City Market quickly

• People and government will benefit once the market is rehabilitated.

Zambia Micro and Small Traders Foundation Cooperative has appealed to government to speed up the rehabilitation of city market now that funds are available.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Cooperative National Executive Officer Teddy Sinkala says financial constraints on government delayed the rehabilitation works but not anymore as the funds have been provided.
He adds that government should encourage all stakeholders engaged on this project to speed all rehabilitation in order to reduce street vending in the country.
“There are a lot of people, including government agencies, who will benefit once the market is rehabilitated,” he said.
Mr. Sinkala thanked Government for releasing the money for a project which started a long time ago.
“That Project was started in 2014 during the Jubilee celebration and from that time, we did the baseline and people to be relocated to the Simoson lane market,” he said.
“We would like to thank government for the tremendous job for the informal sector. All those who will be trading from there will have licenses from all the relevant authorities.”
Government released 22 million Kwacha to help construct the gutted City Market following complaints by traders that the market is operating without a roof.
