REPORT: Essential commodity prices on the increase

Essential Commodities prices on the local market have continued escalating amid the covid-19 pandemic witnessed from the continued increasing inflation rate.

Recently the Zambia Statistics Agency announced an increase in Zambia’s inflation rate for the Month of December to 19.2 percent attributed to price increases in food items.

This, prompted the Money FM News Crew to investigate how some essential commodities are priced in Lusaka at a retail scale.

A Tray of Eggs is selling for K48 and K2 one Egg, Bread K14 and a Pan of Bans K20, Breakfast Mealie Meal 25 KG K130 and a 12.5 KG at K70.

Cooking oil is selling at K89 for a 2.5ltr, K75 Two liters and K175 five liters.

K48 for a 1 KG peanut butter, 1KG Sugar was at K18 and K35 for 2KG.

K4.50 for 500grams salt while Spaghetti is at K8.50.

Chicken K70, Mixed Cut Beef per Kilo Gram K55, Steak and Bone Beef per Kilogram 75 Kwacha and Bream Fish 45 Kwacha per Kilogram.
Lusaka based retailer Hellen Litwayi laments on the depreciating Kwacha against the United States Dollar.
