Rwandese Business Woman Robbed, 5 onlookers shot

• Handbag valued at K400 which contained an undisclosed amount of money and various personal belongings robbed.
• Onlookers started shouting ‘thief’ causing the criminal armed to start shooting at random.
• One live ammunition and four empty cartridges for AK-47 rifle were picked from the scene of crime.

Zambia Police reveals a Lusaka Woman has reported that two unknown male persons armed with an unknown type of firearm and a machette attacked and robbed her of a handbag valued at K400 which contained an undisclosed amount of money and various personal belongings.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga explained brief facts are that Beata Nyiraneza, Female closed her shop early to observe the performance of the alarm after she was informed that it had malfunctioned the previous night, as she was closing the shop the alarm immediately went off.

Mr Hamoonga narrated that she then decided to call Armsecure to report the faulty alarm system, as she was on phone, two unknown male persons emerged on foot armed with a firearm and a machette, and ordered her to surrender the phone and handbag after she was pointed a firearm at.

“Police recorded a report of aggravated Robbery and shooting incident which occurred on 18th November, 2021 around 21:30hrs at TT liquor store Kamwala from F/ Beata Nyiraneza aged 39 of Lilayi area a Rwandese.” Mr. Hamoonga explained.

He however said as the criminals were leaving the scene, onlookers started shouting ‘thief’ causing the criminal armed to start shooting at random leaving five people shot at and injured.

“Five people were shot at and injured in the process namely: F/Mailess Ngoma aged 52 of the neighboring shop of Kamwala south was shot on the left leg, M/Kunda Lubaya aged 63 of Asa farm was shot on the right arm, M/Samson Zulu aged 25 of Chawama compound was shot on the left thigh, M/Sunday Chawe aged 41 of Kamwala south was shot on his left pelvis and M/Henry Phiri aged 26 also of Kamwala south was shot on the bladder.”

According to the Police Spokesperson, all the above victims were Friday admitted at UTH and receiving medical attention.

He has since disclosed that one live ammunition and four empty cartridges for AK-47 rifle were picked from the scene of crime stating that Police are investigating the matter.
