SAFADA urges FRA to float maize price at K150

• Government should float the maize price at K150 per 50kg bag.
• FRA should start early to buy maize from farmers.
• The private sector should buy at a fair price to empower the farmers.

Small Scale Farmers Development Agency (SAFADA) has called on government through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to consider floating the maize price at K150 per 50 kilogram so as to empower the farmers.
Speaking to Money FM News, Organization Executive Director Boyd Moobwe also urged the Agency to start buying maize early enough to make it easy for farmers to start preparing for the next farming season.
Mr. Moobwe said the organization will continue supplementing government efforts in assisting small scale farmers in the county to realize their potential.
He thanked government for empowering the youth, women and farmers in different parts of the country.
“We strongly appeal to the current government to continue supporting vulnerable people in the country even after elections towards poverty reduction. We also appeal to farmers to support the current development taking place in agriculture. However, we appeal to government to float the maize price at K150 per 50kg bag and FRA should start early to buy maize from farmers. The private sector should buy at a fair price to empower the farmers,” Mr. Moobwe stated.
Mr. Moobwe however said although the clarification of support is very selective, the organization is grateful to government for empowering and helping the people in need that has been valued potential to access government support.
