Silence the Guns extended for ten years

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) says  the Governance, Peace and Security (GPS) Unity  and Security  have noted their continued collaboration with the African Union  and Regional Economic Communities in the area of peace and security while leveraging on each other’s’ technical expertise and resources.

In a statement issued to Money FM News the GPS Unit lead by COMESA Secretary General Chileshe Kapwepwe further noted implementation of the AU programme on Silence the Guns in Africa that has been extended for a period of ten years is positive news.

The GPS Unit says the extension of the flagship project provides further opportunity for COMESA to consolidate and strengthen its contribution in the areas of peace and security.

According to the statement, COMESA has been urged to continue working closely with Member States in addressing the root causes of conflict as it is envisaged that this would contribute significantly to the efforts towards silencing the guns, going forward.

“The implementation of the African Union (AU) programme on Silence the Guns in Africa has been extended for a period of ten years from 2021-2030, with periodic reviews every two years,” read a statement issued by COMESA.
