Societies urged to file in annual returns

The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged all registered societies in Zambia to file in their 2018 annual returns or face de-registration.
Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo says over 47, 000 societies are registered in the country with the Registrar of Societies.
Mr. Kampyongo says out of the 47, 000, 22, 000 poses certificates of registration and should file in their annual returns while 25, 000 have certificates of exemptions.
He says the societies that are expected to file in their annual returns include clubs for farmers, women, youth, cultural associations, political parties and some religious bodies.
He clarifies that the societies that are exempted from filing in their annual returns include churches such as the Catholic Church, Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), Jehovah’s Witnesses, United Church of Zambia (UCZ) among others because they offer social services.
The Home Affairs Minister has also warned societies that are not registered that they are operating illegally and the law will visit them.
