Lusaka City Council (LCC) says the street name signage placement exercise which it has embarked on is expected to greatly enhance the delivery of goods and services to residents by use of postal and courier services, utility billing and servicing, among others.
Council Public Relations Manager Mwaka Nakweti told Money FM News in a statement that the exercise which is being done in in partnership with the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) in selected parts of the city, is a component of a larger National Addressing project whose aim is to ensure all properties in the country have logical and user friendly addresses.
Ms. Nakweti further said placement of street name signs in the city will also help with law enforcement and provide convenience for members of the public as they commute from one point to another.
“The Local Authority has resolved to place the street name signs on boundary walls of corner properties on account of rampant vandalism of steel pole signs. In view of the above, members of the public are advised to cooperate with the officers and the contractor as they go round mounting street name signage,” Ms. Nakweti said.
She added that the exercise is being implemented as part of ZICTA’s National Addressing Project aimed at developing a comprehensive addressing system in Zambia.
The ZICTA sponsored exercise which began in June 2022 is expected to be completed by August 2022 with this year’s target areas being Emmasdale, Mass Media and Nyumba Yanga.
