• Fees will enable teachers who do not meet the minimum standards get employment
• There is need for Government to further reduce the fees so that those who cannot afford but meet the standards can get the licenses as well
• Ministry of Education must have standard officers to regulate and enhance standards of Education.

Advocacy for one Teacher Union in Zambia has called on Government to consider a further reduction in fees for Teacher Practicing Certificate License based on the high number of teachers in the country.
Union Interim Chairperson Misheck Kakungu told Money FM News that the current fees will enable teachers who do not meet the minimum standards but can afford to pay for the license to start teaching in schools, while those without money will be left out.
Mr. Kakungu said there is need for Government to further reduce the fees so that those who cannot afford but meet the standards can get the licenses as well.
He said the Union appreciates the milestone steps taken by Teaching Council of Zambia especially on the aspect of helping the Ministry of Education to clean up fake teachers with false credentials and help have few institutions closed for not meeting the minimum standards and offer quality Education.
“However, we are of the view that all such with a strengthen directorate at the ministry of education can best be tackled unlike establishing several institutions to perform functions of the ministry,” he said
Mr. Kakungu stated that Ministry of Education should have standard officers to regulate and enhance standards of Education.
