Timber Producers applaud Government for reducing Timber prices

• Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) reduces prices of Eucalyptus and Pine round wood
• The move will enable ordinary Zambians to roof their houses at a cheaper cost.
• ZAFFICO’s decision is worth commending as it has come at a time when the industry is faced with so many challenges.

Timber Producers Association of Zambia has applauded Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) for reducing prices of Eucalyptus and Pine round wood from K1, 515 to K1, 149 and K1, 454 respectively.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association President Charles Masange said the move will enable ordinary Zambians to roof their houses at a cheaper cost.
Mr. Masange stated that ZAFFICO’s decision is worth commending as it has come at a time when the industry is faced with so many challenges.
“The reduction in timber prices will curtail some of the challenges associated with timber trading and allow a number of traders to participate in the business,” he said.
Mr. Masange added that Zambia’s timber and wood products are of major economic importance, providing formal and informal employment for thousands of people.
“Timber is important because it is used in construction and for furniture, packaging materials, joinery and curios hence this move by Government will help business for timber traders,” he stated.
Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) has reduced prices of Eucalyptus and Pine round wood from K1, 515 to K1, 149 and K1,454 respectively.
ZAFFICO Public Relations Manager Irene Chipili revealed that the price adjustments are with immediate effect and will remain in force up to December, 2023.
Mrs. Chipili said this measure was taken into consideration, the need to provide a conducive trading environment and sustainability of the timber industry in Zambia.
