Transport and Communications Ministry recommends closure of selected Airports in Zambia.

Ministry of Transport and Communication has recommended closure of selected airports in the country as a measure to mitigate the spread of Coronavirus.

In a letter addressed to Cabinet, Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu has named the recommended International Airports as Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, in Ndola, Harry Mwanga Nkumbula in Livingstone and Mfuwe International Airport in Eastern province.

Engineer Lungu said the facilities are expected to be closed from 27th March 2020 until further notice.

He further observed the need to suspend Cross Border Public Passenger services, reduction of passengers on all local public Transport vehicles to reduce the number of passengers to 60 percent of its capacity on inter and intra city routes.

“We recommend that all local public buses and Taxis reduce the number of passengers and load a maximum of 60% of its capacity.” He said.

He added that all passenger railways by TAZARA and Zambia railways be suspended and tall trucks plying on Zambian roads to park in designated parking areas.
