Universities and Colleges set to reopen on 8th June, 2020

Minister of Higher Education has announced that Universities in the Country will reopen on the 8th of June while Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVET) institutions will report on the 1st July following the premature closure due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
Speaking during a press briefing, Dr. Brian Mushimba said only graduating student that have been learning online will be required to report of classes during this period in a bid to observe health guidelines as advised by the ministry of Health and the world health organization.
“Only students in graduating students who have been learning online will be required to report for class during this period,” He said.
Dr. Mushimba added that students graduating from the University of Zambia (UNZA) this year, will be subjected to a visual graduation to be held on the 17th of July as an extensive measure to stop the spread of the pandemic.
“This is the new normal, and we need to get used to it because even other countries are doing online graduations around the world,” Dr. Mushimba.
He has since assured the public and parents that government will ensure that retaining students are protected by providing hand washing facilities and ensuring that social distancing is observed.
The minister has also abolished squatting in learning institutions in a bid to meet distance requirements in the COVID 19 period.
Meanwhile students will be required to buy their own masks, hand sanitizers and soap while foreign students will continue with e-learning and write their examinations online.
