Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia says the US$1.3 billion grant committed by cooperating partners to Zambia’s health sector will help improve drug supply.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Society President Kennedy Saini said this will also help enhance continuous flow of medicines and other health care delivery equipment.
Mr. Saini noted that the funding mainly targets to combat mother to child pre exposure to prophylaxis and treatment of monitoring therapy, hence the need for government to spread awareness on such health matters.
“In the previous years, the funding mainly depended on medication for laboratory support and for monitoring therapy, much of the support has not really targeted Information, Education and Communication (IEC), which is very important,” Mr. Saini said.
And Mr. Saini called on government to consider sensitizing communities on mother to child Pre-Exposure to Prophylaxis and Treatment of Monitoring Therapy in order to raise awareness on such health matters.
“I would like to see more medicine channeled towards abstinence, safe sex and prevention of infections,” he added.
Zambia’s cooperating partners who include the World Bank, UN Agencies, Japan, Germany Government, and the Global Fund among others have committed US$1.3 to the country’s health sector for the period 2023-2025.
