The Consumer Unit Trust Society (CUTS) International Zambia Chapter has called on the government to consider giving license to a fifth mobile service provider.
CUTS Zambia has also expressed concern that UZZI Mobile Zambia Ltd has taken too much time to start operating despite being given the license last year.
Transport and Communications Minister Engineer Brian Mushimba disclosed that ZICTA has approved additional time for UZZI, the new mobile network operator, to set up their network.
Eng. Mushimba said the projected completion of the “behind the scenes technical deployment” is October or November.
He assured that Zambia will have a new mobile network operator before year end.
But CUTS Zambia Center Coordinator Chenai Mukumba tells Money FM News that Zambians have been anticipating the introduction of UZZI onto the Zambian market but that they have taken too much time.
Ms Mukumba has however indicated that it is important that the fourth mobile service provider puts in place necessary infrastructure in place to ensure that there are no service interruptions.
“We however, wish to encourage UZZI to expedite the process of their entry into the Zambian market. This will provide for competition and improved service delivery,” she said.
Ms Mukumba said when UZZI comes on the market, there will be cost effective of service delivery from different mobile service providers.
