Vubwi Town Council has disclosed that it has released K476, 000 for grants to 12 cooperatives in the district.
Council Treasurer Joseph Matabishi told Money FM News that the funds will help change livelihoods of people as they have not had stable income.
Mr. Matabishi urged would be beneficiaries of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) grants to use the resources for the intended purpose.
He stated that beneficiaries must ensure that funds trickle down to other community members in order to ultimately change the economic fortunes of the district and the country at large.
Mr Matabishi added that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has set up a robust empowerment program to stimulate local economies through CDF.
“The funds released have the capacity to change the livelihoods of the beneficiaries and ultimately change the economic fortunes of the district and country as a whole. The local authority will be monitoring the initiated CDF projects closely,” Mr. Matabishi said.
And one of the representatives of Tazigwa Cooperative of Vubwi District in Eastern Province Simon Banda thanked Government for fulfilling its promise to empower the community.
“We want to assure government that money will be used for the intended purpose and contribute to the growth of the Province and the Country at large,” Mr Banda stated.
