The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) says it has raised about K824, 750 out of the 3,299 registered boreholes in the first half of the year.
Responding to a press query sent by Money FM News, Authority Public Relations Manager Joshua Kapila said the organisation registered 3,299 boreholes the first quarter and 133 boreholes in the second quarter of 2020, respectively.
Mr. Kapila said a total of 3,299 boreholes have been cumulatively registered at a fee of K250 per borehole.
“The Authority has registered 3,299 boreholes cumulatively, as of 30th June, 2020, comprising of 3,146 boreholes in the first quarter and 133 boreholes in the second quarter of 2020, respectively,” he noted.
He says the Authority also licensed 72 drilling companies as of 20th June 2020, for the year 2020, with more companies expected to apply for drilling licences in the course of the year.
And Mr. Kapila has since urged the general public and stakeholders to obtain permission to drill before embarking on drilling their boreholes, as well as register all existing unregistered boreholes with the Authority to enable the organisation provide better services and ensure that the water being consumed is safe for consumption.
“WARMA is encouraging the general public and stakeholders to obtain permission to drill before embarking on drilling their boreholes, and also register all existing unregistered boreholes with the Authority to enable the Authority provide better services by ensuring that the water being consumed is safe for consumption,” Mr. Kapila said.
He further called on the public to engage WARMA-licensed drilling companies, and report to the Authority any substandard for corrective measures to be taken.
