The Zambia Association of Manufactures (ZAM) says government did not widely consult stakeholders before banning the use of plastic bags in the country.
ZAM President Rosetta Chabala has told Money FM News in an interview that the association was not consulted over the introduction of the new law.
Ms Chabala says the new law will have a negative impact on the Manufacturing sector citing that some companies affected will have to close down their business.
Ms. Chabala adds that the process of phasing out plastics would have been done over a period of time, to allow manufactures to plan other than effecting the bill over time.
Government on Monday banned the Use of Plastic carrier bags which supermarkets usually give to customers after buying goods.
The plastic carrier bags and other plastics banned are those below thirty microns in thickness.
This follows the signing into law the Environmental Management -Extended producer responsibility- regulations Statutory Instrument number 65 of 2018.
