Zambia embracing technology in economic development

Deputy Secretary to Cabinet Christopher Mvunga has noted that it has now become inevitable that industrialization and economic development is linked to technological advancement.
Mr. Mvunga says Zambia recognizes the need to embrace technology if it is to move forward and compete globally.
He has therefore disclosed that Smart Zambia is coming up with the Information Communications Technology (ICT) Masterplan which was presented before Cabinet about a week ago.
Mr. Mvunga has outlined a number of projects that are being implemented and are yet to be implemented in order to achieve a technologically driven economy.
He has named the Universal Access Project (Towers Project) which aims at implementing one thousand and Nine (1009) towers to ensure Rural, Peri-Urban and Urban Areas access to communication.
“Other projects under implementation and consideration include Smart Zambia Phase 2, E Passport, E National Registration Card, Smart City (Safety Project), E Health (Piloted), E Procurement, ZRA Modernization Projects,” he said.
The Secretary to the Cabinet was giving an update on the ICT Development in Zambia in Barcelona, Spain on the sidelines of the 2019 Mobile World Congress.
