The Zambia Farmers Association for Development Agency says it is possible for Zambia to meet agricultural local demand and export the surplus to the neighboring countries if only farmers are supported by stakeholders.
Agency Director Boyd Mobwe says Zambia has capacity to feed the Sub Saharan countries if only farmers are supported with necessary equipment.
Mr. Mobwe says government’s full support should be reflected in the national budget by way of allocating reasonable amounts towards the agriculture sector.
“It is a question of the budget, if the government can show commitment by honoring certain treaties of allocating reasonable amounts to the agriculture sector, Zambia can become a food basket for the African region,” he said.
He says banks on the other hand should help the government in supporting the farmers if the country is to record meaningful development in the agriculture sector.
